When will we say enough is enough road deaths? We’re being sold a verifiably a pack of lies to keep our anger at bay, but it’s politicians, judges and officials who need a wakeup call

Comment & Analysis: When will we say enough is enough road deaths? Anthony Hogg (40) and his wife, Georgina Hogg Moore (39), were killed in the latest hit-and-run, leaving their children orphan…

Two more people dead on Irish roads last night.

The Road Safety Authority, by their own admission, spent €6.6m in road safety campaigns in the last 18 months for exactly zero return.

That's 20 times the cost of the bike shelter in Leinster House, and nearly five times the cost of the security hut. Both the bike shelter and the hut continue to serve a useful function. The RSA spend is money down the drain.

Where's the public outrage?!

Maybe it's just us, but removing one of the deterrents to dangerous driving behaviour doesn't sound like a great idea for a body charged with making the roads safer. How about a fine, penalty points AND a speed awareness course?

The Road Safety Authority has learned nothing from the criticism over the last year. Their strategy continues to be diametrically opposed to national transport policy and is actively scaring people off the road instead of making them safer.

154 people have died as a result of road traffic incidents in Ireland this year. While it is now unlikely that the total figure for 2024 will be as high as last year it will still be higher than the previous six years.

The dead include 30 people who were walking and 10 people who were cycling.

The number of people injured is likely to be around 8,000 with about 1-1.5k of those seriously injured.

Fianna Fáil TD, Éamon Ó Cuív recently called for the wearing of hi viz clothing to be made mandatory for people walking and cycling. When was the last time you heard any TD call for a ban on screens in cars?

"Be Safe, Be Seen" must be the most ineffective campaign the RSA has ever come up with. There is nothing you can do to make yourself "be seen" by someone who isn't looking.

Road Safety Authority To Be Split Into Two Agencies - Clare FM

The Road Safety Authority is to be divided into two separate agencies from the start of next year. An independent review published on Tuesday recommends one part take responsibility for driving tests and NCTs, while the other will take care of road safety campaigns, education, and research. Minister of State at the Department of Transport, […]
