Early Data from NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory Reveals Over 11,000 New Asteroids

Scientists at NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory, jointly funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science, have submitted an unprecedented set of asteroid detections to the IAU Minor Planet Center, including hundreds of distant worlds beyond Neptune and 33 previously unknown near-Earth asteroids.

A dream of a robin

Normally what I look for in photos is sharp focus. I want to make out every detail. But as I was editing this photo of a robin perched in a magnolia bush I found the background turning all milky and making it all look dreamlike. So I leaned into it and in the end this might be one of the best photos I’ve ever taken.

Oxymoronical

Get a load of the eyebrows on this sweet little collared bush robin! This very special friend likes hanging out amongst the greenery in Taiwan, and is a very handsome fellow indeed.

I’m still making my way through my curated list of Robin Species I Would Like To Paint, so expect more robins where this lip guy came from (as in my studio, not geographical habitat distribution, because there are many different robins across a bunch of continents)
