In middeleeuwse bestiaria wordt vermeld dat de ooievaar zijn ouders voedde wanneer deze niet meer voor zichzelf konden zorgen. In de schilderkunst van de renaissance symboliseert de ooievaar daarom de trouw van kinderen aan hun ouders.[39] Deze toeschrijving gaat terug tot de Romeinen die de godin Pietas afbeeldden met een ooievaar of een ibis aan haar voeten. Haar verering kreeg een impuls toen het verhaal bekend werd van een tot de hongerdood veroordeelde vader die gered werd doordat zijn dochter hem voedde met melk uit haar borsten. De Romeinen zagen de vogel als symbool van trouw aan het eerbiedwaardige in ruimere zin, zoals de ouders, de staat en de kerk. (bron: Wikipedia)

In medieval bestiaries, it is mentioned that the stork fed its parents when they could no longer care for themselves. In Renaissance painting, the stork therefore symbolizes children's loyalty to their parents. This attribution goes back to the Romans, who depicted the goddess Pietas with a stork or an ibis at her feet. Her veneration received a boost when the story became known of a father condemned to death by starvation who was saved because his daughter fed him with milk from her breasts. While we’re on the baby theme - here’s a baby Lyrebird. Healesville Sanctuary, in Victoria, Australia, is the only place to breed Lyrebirds in captivity. This is their 9th. Lyrebirds live on the forest floor - in semi darkness, so this was a tricky photo to get.

Had a pleasure of seeing this young song sparrow on my front yard. Tricky ID made easy by the mama bird perched right next to it! Mama teaching the baby to forage. I especially love it when their tail is not quite the adult length yet. So cute!
