The latest software update for my #Rivian included their AI assistant, and I’m impressed with it. I also think this application avoids the ethical issues, since it’s not using its training materials to generate produce, only to understand human language for interaction*. It’s a huge improvement over the touchscreen interface, and gives you access to all the vehicles features, so you don’t need to take your eyes off the road to change things.
My favorite part so far, though, is the improvements it brings to the navigation voice. It’s much more natural and less off-putting, and it does a better job at pronouncing things. Hilariously, it even put on a Spanish accent when it told me to turn onto The Alameda. I’m very intrigued to see how it does when we’re out in New Mexico this summer, and there’s Spanish words all over the place.
* I’m open to being wrong about this, but it is certainly not the obvious violation caused by ingesting copyrighted works and used them to create ‘new’ content.
