that #NATO pilots are poltroons for using costly Sidewinder missiles to shoot down cheap Russian/Iranian Shahed drones is a canard*, Critics don't recognise the full risk equation.

Ukrainian fighter jets closing to effective cannon-fire range close to such low-and-slow targets have been damaged, even lost, after detonating the UAV's warhead, as it is hard to avoid flying into the debris cloud. On occasion, the pilot has been lost too.
