Article on Sexual Orientation & Psych Disorders Retracted
Retraction Watchincludes an article: “Article on sexual orientation and
psych disorders retracted.”

Here are some excerpts:

A paper about the potential influence of neurotransmitters on the
development of sexual orientation and psychiatric disorders that caught
flack on social media a year ago has now been retracted….

<snip>

Late last year, Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews, an Elsevier
journal, published an expression of concern
<https://dmanalytics2.com/click?u=https%3A%2F%2Fretractionwatch.com%2F2021%2F12%2F06%2Fpaper-on-sexual-orientation-and-neuropsychiatric-disorders-earns-an-expression-of-concern%2F&i=1&d=qiStBY_7RdO9ULwo4y_2VA&e=michael%40hygeiacounseling.com&a=V91XI7lTQLuc7usO9Htjtw&s=ToyO9EYwllw> for
the article “Sexual orientation, neuropsychiatric disorders and the
neurotransmitters involved
<https://dmanalytics2.com/click?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sciencedirect.com%2Fscience%2Farticle%2Fpii%2FS0149763421004310%23&i=2&d=qiStBY_7RdO9ULwo4y_2VA&e=michael%40hygeiacounseling.com&a=V91XI7lTQLuc7usO9Htjtw&s=Y3-s3gzPxwE>.”

<snip>

The notice said only that “some readers have raised concerns” about the
article, which the journal was discussing the the authors, a group led
by Dick Swaab
<https://dmanalytics2.com/click?u=https%3A%2F%2Fnin.nl%2Fresearch-groups%2Fswaab%2F&i=3&d=qiStBY_7RdO9ULwo4y_2VA&e=michael%40hygeiacounseling.com&a=V91XI7lTQLuc7usO9Htjtw&s=YCD6HEF2ZiM> of
the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience in Amsterdam.

We pointed out at the time
<https://dmanalytics2.com/click?u=https%3A%2F%2Fretractionwatch.com%2F2021%2F12%2F06%2Fpaper-on-sexual-orientation-and-neuropsychiatric-disorders-earns-an-expression-of-concern%2F&i=4&d=qiStBY_7RdO9ULwo4y_2VA&e=michael%40hygeiacounseling.com&a=V91XI7lTQLuc7usO9Htjtw&s=ToyO9EYwllw> that
the expression of concern followed criticism on social media, including
by Steve Maren
<https://dmanalytics2.com/click?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FStephenMaren&i=5&d=qiStBY_7RdO9ULwo4y_2VA&e=michael%40hygeiacounseling.com&a=V91XI7lTQLuc7usO9Htjtw&s=B3sS8UZVJeI>,
a biobehaviorial neuroscientist at Texas A&M University and member of
the journal’s editorial board, who tweeted
<https://dmanalytics2.com/click?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FStephenMaren%2Fstatus%2F1466421574056255511%3Fs%3D20%26t%3Dz-qXHqiEI5zwJttKwYQq8g&i=6&d=qiStBY_7RdO9ULwo4y_2VA&e=michael%40hygeiacounseling.com&a=V91XI7lTQLuc7usO9Htjtw&s=U7MpI9TZkHw> that
he had emailed the editor in chief requesting the paper’s retraction.

The day after our original story published, Maren tweeted a detailed
thread
<https://dmanalytics2.com/click?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FStephenMaren%2Fstatus%2F1468237808997437444&i=7&d=qiStBY_7RdO9ULwo4y_2VA&e=michael%40hygeiacounseling.com&a=V91XI7lTQLuc7usO9Htjtw&s=hLA90LoXsBA> about
how the review article “completely misrepresented” one of the studies it
referenced….

<snip>

Recently – we don’t know exactly when, because of how Elsevier publishes
retraction notices – the journal retracted the article. The notice stated:

This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor in
Chief of Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews after concerns were
raised with respect to the phrasing of comparisons drawn between
humans and animal models. These comparisons were deemed
unsupportable, and thus in the best interests of publication
standards the Editor has concluded it is necessary to retract the
paper. The authors disagree with the reason for the retraction.
