A #PriceOnPolluton that returns the collected fees as an equal dividend to every citizen in order to help pay for their personal #EnergyTransition would be the fastest and most just way to #Decarbonize imo.
Too bad so many otherwise good #Climate leaders like @SeanCasten still oppose it, but if enough Americans #VoteBlue this fall perhaps we'll soon have a #CarbonTax

Thankfully, explicit subsidies to the fossil fuel industry is one of the areas in which the USA is one of the countries that is pretty much innocent of it.
There are still too many implicit subsidies, but hopefully if Americans keep voting out the fossil fools like they've started doing in 2018 we'll be able to put a #PriceOnPolluton next year so that we can start taxing the fossil fuels at the wellhead, mines and ports.

Until there's a #PriceOnPolluton the economics (without consideration of external costs) will probably continue to favor fossil fueled furnaces in many locales.
Adding a heat pump to a condensing methane fueled heating system when it is time to replace the air conditioning unit to make it a hybrid system is a good interim investment towards reducing the pollution your building causes.
Of course, creating your own electricity using PV and batteries changes the calculus.

We were pretty close to getting a #PriceOnPolluton policy like the one us working with @citizensclimate were promoting up until the GOP nominated Trump and Americans allowed him to live in our White House.
It starts out modest, but has predictable increases incorporated and because all of the revenue is returned to all citizens equally it wouldn't harm lower income people.
