#PolyglotDiaries I was bewildered to see a paneer (cottage cheese) favoured soda in Mysore until the penny dropped that the label might be a bad transliteration of panneeru (meaning rose water in Kannada).

I did a thing on the Structured Commons. I also shot the images on my work trips. #PolyglotDiaries.

(For the benefit of those unfamiliar with #Wikidata or the Structured Commons, I took the photos, uploaded them to Wikimedia projects, and manually filled out all the accompanying information and descriptions you see in different languages in the screenshots.)
If there are languages that you can speak and understand but are not literate in, then this is a hack for reading and writing those. I also use it for Japanese although it's trickier to read and write kanji this way. (I have forgotten how to read & write kana. 😭)
Google Translate shows IPA transliteration for all the source languages I have tried except English and Spanish. The source language panel supports text-to-speech, so I can "read" stuff simply by playing it back. #PolyglotDiaries
Image captions I entered as Structured data on the Wikimedia Commons. I cannot read or write some of these scripts completely. So, I transliterate them and get text-to-speech to read it out to me, so I know whether or not the transliteration is correct.
