"You have the right to record police in Alabama.

'There’s a case law out of the United States court of appeals, through the 11th Circuit, which is in the jurisdiction of Alabama, that specifically says under the First Amendment that you have an absolute right, especially if a police officer or public official is on a public property,' Birmingham attorney Roger Appell said."

Recording law enforcement in Alabama

Attorney Roger Appell said if you’re arrested for filming police, it’s important to argue the case in court and not on the street.

This was the first one of this tree that I've edited. I think the others I shot a couple days ago might be better. It'll be part of my Muro Loco project.

I shot this with my 24mm f1.6 lens. I decided that this was a perfect scene for the 24mm f3.5 tilt-shift. When I got it out of the case, that's when I realized the adjusting knob was missing (per post several days ago). By the time I realized I could hand-adjust the lens, a cloud blocked the sun.

What this shot really needs is a thunderstorm background, with clear skies to the west to get the bars/shadow effect. If they close the road, I'll have to risk getting busted to get the shot. #PhotographyIsNotACrime

When I went back two days ago to do the timelapse, I scoured the ground where I'd parked to see if the little ($220) knob had fallen off when I pulled the lens from the case. No luck. I'm going to do a thorough cleaning of the truck to see if it's in there somewhere.

> It took 15 years but the cops finally succeeded in shutting down PINAC News.

> But PINAC had long proven that photography is not a crime which was its original mission.
>
> And in doing so, Photography is Not a Crime as it was originally called became the first site dedicated to exposing police abuse caught on camera, making plenty of cop enemies along the way.
>
> PINAC came to an end on December 28, 2022 after a lengthy battle with Big Brother which began in 2007 after its owner and founder, Carlos Miller, was beaten and arrested by Miami police for photographing them in public.
>
> It evolved into a national movement with citizens from across the country challenging police over their First Amendment right to record in public.
>
> The movement led to the explosion of police abuse videos recorded by citizens on their smartphones, videos that have sent many cops to prison.
>
> The movement also led to pushback from police who spent years arresting PINAC reporters on false charges for recording them in public, only to see the site continue to grow in popularity.
>
> In the end, it was Big Tech that killed PINAC on behalf of police; social media companies responding to cop complaints that articles of police abuse caught on video were making officers fear for their lives because readers would leave angry comments and then want to record the police.
