Photographers, winter can be a dry spell for a lot of us. Do you have plans to keep yourself shooting this winter? What are they?

I bought new cold weather gear and I plan to continue exploring the natural spaces near me. I also intend to continue finding inspiration for still life shots by participating in the Macro Mondays weekly theme group on Flickr.

Comparison of several flash diffusers for #MacroPhotohraphy: https://youtu.be/864ZOCtUWJU

I like the Pope Shield shots, though it might be awkward to use in the field since it sticks out in front of the lens.

I think ring flash is the easiest for walk-around use (not compared in the video). I also have the fold up diffuser he uses for the 3rd photo. Results are softer than the ring flash. I plan to use it more often when bugs are back next year.

YouTube

@englishm Youtube has videos where people show how they edit and explain their reasoning.

I'd avoid color grading if you want to represent what you saw. Get white balance right and adjust exposure (whites, blacks, etc) to match what you saw. Use of local adjustments to help.

To make sure you're not taking things too far, Work on developing your eye - look at other peoples photos, movies, tv. Practice editing photos regularly.

Who's interested in #PhotographyDiscussion? In particular, processing/editing your photos?

I had my #DSLR for quite a few years before friends convinced me trying using #RAW format. But I still mostly use #LightRoom on Android for quick, easy adjustments to lighting.

Recently shot a wedding (not a professional!), and the dim lighting left some photos noisy, but a trial of ON1 worked wonders for decreasing noise. #denoise

What's your process, and what parts do you like or dislike?

With the #photography tag, questions and discussion can get lost amid all the photos being shared. I've made a few posts using the #PhotographyDiscussion  tag.

@tim Very subjective of course, but a few things IMO:
- Good use of lines, geometry, and contrast to make an aesthetically pleasing composition. When it comes to genres, I see street as the king of composition
- Interactions - between people and the scene, people and other people, etc - captured at just the right moment so the still image tells the story of motion or interaction
- A fleeting, candid moment when the subject makes eye contact with the photographer
