Anime Robots Are People Too- the Japanese Approach.
Japan has a different attitude to robots than the West. Instead of Frankenstein and Terminator “Do not play God and create life” themes, Japanese have the Shinto/Buddhist animist idea that mountains, rivers, animals, and artificial objects have their own spirits and are non-human persons. Let’s look at some series with a different view of non-human intelligences and ethics!

Paul KemnerAnime Track at #Penguicon last weekend (I'm track head):
Seasonal Anime BoF- 30+ people attended. We said "only recommend 1 show, why someone would enjoy it, you're limited to 2 minutes." Everyone got a chance to talk, no negative comments.
Anime That's Better Than You'd Expect- Trust Us!- Anime with off-putting titles, like "I want to eat your pancreas"
Anime On the Spectrum - Positive autism representation, I co-presented with the head of the Diversity track.
Anime Pets and Animal Companions- cute.
De-stress with Iyashikei - Healing Anime- most attendees were unfamiliar with this, lots of interest.
Overall, success!
