I’ve been colouring the first double page of Secret Garden by Johanna Basford (reprinted 15 times between 2013 and 2015, don’t you know).

I’m about a third done and I’ve been here for hours. Just used my Thumper massager partly in hopes of loosening my hand. I can’t seem to grip more loosely.

Loving my Prismacolor pencils. Except the few that broke on sharpening (it’s a problem with these, they’re not so well-made anymore).

I took the dust cover off a while ago and spent a few hours last night colouring the cardboard cover with Posca markers. They stand out really well.

Also been writing, mostly editing, and I need to think of more to happen in a few chapters. I’m not sure it’ll work to combine three into two instead.

Working with one GraphGear 1000 means an artist is serious.

But working with more than one, in different "weights" (sizes? or grades? whatever!), means an artist is a major force to be reckoned with.

...well done, Mr. Hendley.

Thinking of pencils, Derwent’s Chromaflow comes to mind. The name, I think. They say they’re vibrant and easy to blend.

I love Derwent being such fiends for pencils and their innovations like inktense and graphitint. And they’re made in the UK. Not spon, just love.

I’ve got a huge bunch of pencils already including oodles of watercolour. I’m not very good at using them with water, though. I tend to move the pigment too much so it’s uneven.

The Lyra set I kept from the 90s is amazing for a kids’ range. I bought a current one in lilac to compare, and because purples are lacking, and it’s good, but not great.

I’m feeling pencils for colouring books lately rather than paint, so using them more. Pencils having tiny tips was using more arm and causing pain, but I have loosened up some now things are more stable.

I was enjoying using my scented coloured pencils in The Forest Girls colouring book, the art in a sweet, soft style. The pencils are by an American company called Lifelines. I found them on eBay along with scented gel pens with lava-lamp style liquid in the barrels.

I’d seen Chloe Rose review them on YouTube along with some Lego pens and a few others. Cheaper to buy in America, but they’re nice. She said they’re not the most pigmented, but they’re pretty good really and, if they weren’t, this book suits gentleness.

Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 04-30-26

Work did not allow for timely Pook-Emu Bee links, but today I return with nine new links from around the web. 1 Popular WordPress redirect plugin hid dormant backdoor for years (Bill Toulas for Bleeping Computer. April 29, 2026.) Not popular enough for me to have been using it (but do attend to the issue if you happen to be running Quick Page/Post Redirect on WordPress). 2. Waylay Callais! (Josh Blackman for The Volokh Conspiracy. April 30, 2026.) After much anticipation, the Supreme […]
