My formula for the relative value of the patches available for your quilt:

((size X 2) + ( incomePotential X paydays) - cost )/ time

size = cells covered by the patch (worth 2 each)
cost = (cash on hand) required to purchase the patch
IncomePotential = buttons attached to the the patch
paydays = income periods remaining
time = cells you must move
