Partition made both sides of my family refugees overnight.

I have heard the most harrowing stories, including how my paternal grandfather hid under dead bodies on a train.

I thank the Indian government for ensuring, through initiatives such as #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay, that the trauma of families like mine is never forgotten.

Today is as much about remembering the trauma of Partition as it is about commemorating the resilience of its survivors like my folks who started up fresh, having been forced to leave behind lives and livelihoods due to no fault of their own.

Indeed, the Delhi suburb of Lajpat Nagar was originally built to house refugees from what is now Pak.
