Happy Parihaka Day! Today we celebrate 144 years of determined peaceful resistance. Against the confiscation of lands and resources, and the denial of unceded sovereignty, by the British Crown. Not only by tangata whenua, but by Pākeha allies too.
We also mark 144 years since the invasion of the devoutly peaceful indigenous refugee settlement of Parihaka in 1881, by violent coloniser and leader of rapists John Bryce;
