How it started…
we found 4 little arbutus seedlings in a forest back in December 2020. We dug them up and brought them home, planting them in various places around the yard. This is the only one to survive! #home #gardening #arbutus #PacificMadrone #trees
The arbutus is over 10ft tall I think! I think we can officially say that this transplanted baby has established itself
and is thriving!

The tiny arbutus rescue is no longer tiny! It is nearly as tall as the top railing of the deck which is about 15ft! I would think we transplanted it when it was about 1 year old in January 2021, so it is going-on 4 years old.
I dismantled the old fence this morning. The tree will now be free to spread itself a little but we will at some point need to manage it's growth!

Guys! The transplanted Arbutus tree is almost as tall as me!
She has some dying leaves curling up I think from shock from the cold snap in January and/or a general lack of moisture, but overall I think she will be fine.
There is no black spot like when we first transplanted her (Nov 2020) and she continues to produce more leaves and branches! The bottom of her trunk is now a solid orange colour. It should peel for the first time soon!
