The #WomensHockey world gained a lot this offseason, but it also lost dozens of players permanently. Here is a look at the top 10 players who will not be returning to the ice in 2023-24.

New Vibes Based Hockey article! In this one, I discuss the closing of the PHF from a queer perspective. I go into the effect this has had on fans, myself, and even how it affects queer (especially trans) athletes.

I doubt it’s news to anyone at this point, but the PHF got bought out by the PWHPA, and it looks as if they’re rebranding to the PWHPL. Many an article has been written about this, and I will do so again, but from a different angle. One angle I see repeatedly missed or, at best, hastily mentioned, is the queer angle of all this. I’ve briefly touched on it in previous articles, and I did write a little about it in my news roundup a few weeks back when I covered the PWHPL’s owner’s comments on the Boston Pride. Today, though, I really want to focus in on how this affects the queer community. No more spreading my thoughts apart several different articles. I’m bringing all of them here, into one article.
New Vibes Based Hockey article! Today, the off-season begins as I come back from my writing vacation with a news roundup. Today's article contains news stories such as a former NHL prospect claiming he was forced to fight, Patrice Bergeron retires, women's hockey updates and more!
I have been gone for two weeks getting in some much-needed relaxation, but also working on my top 100 NHL prospects list, which I will write more in-depth about here soon. Thank you all for your patience and allowing me to get in this rest before the off-season, and in just over two months, the regular season. It was a needed break, and I have much more energy today for writing than I did two weeks ago. Today, in our first article during the off-season, we’re doing a news roundup to catch up on what’s happened since I’ve been gone.

The PWHL just announced job openings for six GMs. The deadline for application to the undisclosed cities for undisclosed wages is in nine days.
The PWHL/PWHPA is expected to announce the six markets their teams will play in this week. 3 Canadian. 3 American.
They’re expected to dump all the PHL team names, including: Boston because they didn’t like the “double entendre” in the term “Pride” 😬 and Minnesota, despite the team being the longest running franchise in pro women’s hockey and 1 year away from their 20th season.

According to this:
#PWHPA filed to form a labor union (the paperwork may not yet be publicly available)
The CBA was negotiated before the #PHF purchase
It has 97 members
With 6 teams w/23 seats, there are at least 41 seats for players not who are yet members
Without seeing the CBA we don’t know what a lot of the language being tossed around means
New Vibes Based Hockey article: in this one, I discuss the PWHPA hostile takeover of the PHF. All the details of what happened and what this means for the players, and more importantly: why this is destructive to the sport.

Well, it happened. There is now only one professional women’s league in North America, as so many have clamored for. Unfortunately, it played out in the ultimate nightmare scenario. This not clickbait or exaggeration when I say that this may be the worst possible thing to happen to professional women’s hockey in North America, outside there being no leagues at all. July 29th is the day women’s hockey in America went backwards. All the gains made by the PHF are gone. I really don’t know how professional women’s hockey in this continent recovers after this. The most stable league and the only one that showed genuine promise in sticking around just sold themselves to basically get folded. I will warn you, this won’t be the most journalistic article. My opinion will be inserted quite often in this article. My goal isn’t to “both sides” this or “present just the facts”. I’m here to explain what’s going on, and more important, what this means for women’s hockey moving forward and why this is destructive.
If you're wondering what is happening in Women's Pro Hockey, the PHF has been acquired by the LA Dodgers' controlling owner, Mark Walter. The league will shutter and consolidate with PWHPA to create a unified women's hockey league that is expected to launch in January 2024.
The primary concern is what this does to PHF contracts. This will void all current contracts and provide all players with a minimum salary of $35,000.
