I first met Geir Moholdt in Svalbard in 2005 when we were both PhD students at #UNIS. Now we're both at this high level meeting for the #WMO #PHORS panel, still talking about glaciers.
#SatPic behind his title slide shows #Svalbard #glaciers in summer, not much snow left, a terrible sign for a glacier, confirmed by red blobs that show thinning rates since the 1930s. Since 2011 the glaciers of Svalbard on average have lost half a metre per year!

#Climate #Cryosphere

This is a really important point from Andreas Kääb : #TippingPoints is partly a question of definitions - and different definitions are used even within the scientific community.
The #IceSheets are likely tipping elements, but we're really not sure about all of them!!

High impact, high uncertainty is not a good combination..

#PHORS #PHORS2024

Good summary from #WMO head of #Climate services Chris Hewitt on #StateOfTheClimate - 1.45 +/- 0.12 (though I suspect @micefearboggis has something to say about this...)
#PHORS
The high level event for this week's #PHORS meeting includes many top scientists presenting on essential #cryosphere and #climate topics.
Introduced by Roar Skelin, director of #METNorway and welcomed by Ragnhild Sjoner Syrstad
