Attorneys for Harris County and its sheriff argue they weren’t responsible for outsourced jail inmate’s death

The family of Jaleen Anderson, a 29-year-old man who died at a private Louisiana jail facility after being outsourced from Harris County, filed a federal lawsuit earlier this year against the county, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez and the LaSalle Correctional Center.

Polk County Jail begins outsourcing inmates after failing to meet state staffing standards

The county has failed to comply with Texas' mandated ratio of one detention officer for every 48 inmates, Sheriff Byron Lyons wrote in a news release Wednesday.
