Since I’m such a long standing fan of the #precure franchise I keep putting off to write concluding comments about the recently finished shows because I feel I need to say something substantial 😕
So just very quickly: #OtonaPrecure was a bumpy ride and I feel like I’m still not done sorting my thoughts about why I didn’t quite like it.
#HirogaruSkyPrecure was above average and had some really good parts and only minor things where other seasons did better.

Maybe I’ll have more time to elaborate soon.

Bell having the same goal as the Cures was much better than her just being a meanie. She's a recent Kami (being "born" when the bell was cast), and she's observed humans from a distance. She makes mistakes- her town will disintegrate without humans maintaining it, and she doesn't anticipate what will happen when her shadow monster gets too strong.
Overall, a very Hopepunk series. Things are better, but not perfect. The Cures don't win by killing or defeating Bell, and the ecological threat is still present.

I am a bit sad that they didn’t leave much room for imagining that Saki and Mai might be a couple, although it looks like we won’t see their respective (ex)partners 😅
Karen and Milk at least spread some #yuri vibes in the episode before.
What I’m quite happy about is Bunbee being there again, I mean we already saw him in the opening but I appreciate that he can have a more friendly relationship with the Cures now.

Otona Precure ep 3

The series is finally hitting its stride.
We get a clear delineation between the worldly problems, addressed with thought and empathy, and Bell's shadow attacks, which require #Precure transformations. Punching doesn't solve everything.
It looks like they're going to follow the Promise of #Precure with the writing, even though Toei's sakuga team has been busy with Hirogaru Sky and the All-Stars F movie, and they're getting help from Studio Deen

Otona Precure ep 3
It's finally hitting its stride. This episode featured Karen, the doctor. She's bothered by the level of depression in her patients, even after they get good news, and there's nothing she can do about it.
Her current challenge is a girl with a sports injury. She realized something was wrong with her foot, but continued to practice, ending up with a fracture and a load of guilt. She should have a complete recovery, but she's depressed, angry and won't do physical therapy, making things worse.
After repeated tries to help her, Karen abandons the distant professional aura to connect on a personal level. She goes to work in a wheelchair to see what it's like, and talks with the girl about her own emotional challenges. The girl agrees to go to therapy, and Karen attends with her to offer encouragement.
Kurumi (aka Milky Rose) is angry about the outrageous demands her boss is putting on her as a part-time worker. They go out, and Kurmi drinks so heavily that Karen has to carry her home and put her to bed. Kurumi talks about how, when she was a bratty, jealous fairy, Karen nursed her back to health, cementing their friendship. That experience sparked Karen's interest in becoming a doctor.
The hospital is a natural place for the shadows to attack, and Karen rushes back to protect the patients, transforming into Cure Aqua. Even though individually they're no match for her, in the confining corridors of the hospital she's soon overwhelmed and buried under a pile of them.
Kurumi senses that Karen's in trouble, and rushes to the hospital, transforming into Milky Rose and helping to clear the shadows off Karen, They destroy the shadows with Sapphire Arrow and Metal Blizzard attacks.

We get a clear delineation between the worldly problem, which Karen addresses with thought and empathy, and Bell's shadow attacks, which require Precure transformations. Punching doesn't solve everything.

It was cute how they lampshaded the transformation into a younger Cure. At the bar discussing Nozomi,s transformation, she says she felt so light, and when asked about her skin, she says it was "Smooth and tight" with a big smiling blush.

It looks like they're going to follow the Promise of Precure with the writing, even though Toei's sakuga team has been busy with Hirogaru Sky and the All-Stars F movie. Re-using the old transformation sequences was probably a budgetary measure, and combined with fewer episodes and fewer marketable products the production committee isn't expecting a large income.

The series may bring back fans who have lost touch with the series, and bring in more adult fans from outside Japan.

Unlike how drinking is being shown on #OtonaPrecure, the girls in #UmaMusume drink 'faux beer' from beer mugs as they're obviously underage.

Second episode of #OtonaPrecure cleared some of my qualms. Like how it looked like all of them are living their dreams, I like that at least Komachi is different.

But then… I have seen spoilers but I guess I am a bit disappointed that the solution to the things that go on is “become Precure and punch it” after all. It’s probably not going to solve all problems but it follows the typical formula, and to be honest I thought they’d ditch the formula and make something that I as an adult can relate to, not a fantasy of becoming young again.

It’s not like this is terrible, it’s just something different than I thought it might be.

#OtonaPrecure ep 2
The former Cures get together, and they think the others are amazing and fulfilling their dream, while thinking their own lives aren't turning out as they wished.

The monsters are different from the standard 'everyday objects turned into kaiju' from the main seasons.
Instead they're slightly taller than people and don't show up on phone cameras. If they touch your shadow you drop and another monster is created. This makes it more of an explosive zombi infestation, which might be a lot harder to fight. Their creator isn't in view during the attack.
#Precure

This weekend #OtonaPrecure began with a teacher, Nozomi, dealing with a student having to transfer because her parents were divorcing from her dad's failed business, and her dad was moving back with his mother.
Then #HirogaruSky featured an episode with Ageha dealing with one of her favorite preschool students having to transfer out of town.
This had to be a deliberate connection, don't you think?
