Let's take a moment to appreciate the great season Rico Garcia is having.
He has now pitched 20 games (19.2 IP) with 1 hit allowed. In the history of baseball, no other pitcher has allowed fewer than 2 hits in their first 20 games of a season.
The 2 pitchers who allowed 2 hits in their first 20 games were:
2019 Brandon Workman (Bos, 18.0 IP)
2012 Donnie Veal (CWS, 11.2 IP)
Considering ANY 20 game span, including those crossing seasons, only the LOOGY Randy Choate (Mia 2011) has allowed 0 hits in 20 consecutive appearances (only 8.2 IP).
2 others also had 20-game spans with 1 hit allowed, but none crossed over from 1 season to another.
Tim Byrdak (also LOOGY) pitched 20 games (8.1 IP) with 1 hit allowed for the 2012 NYM.
Kyle Barraclough (RHP, Mia) has the only streak that is truly similar to Garcia's current stretch with 1 hit allowed in an identical 19.2 IP spanning 20 games in May and June of 2018.
A reasonable possible lineup for the Orioles vs a RH starter in 2026:
2B Holliday
3B Westburg
SS Henderson
1B Alonso
C Basallo
RF Ward
LF Beavers
DH Rutschman
CF Cowser
Bench
O'Neill
Mayo
Backup IF
3rd catcher?
The team is heavy on players on the right side of the defensive spectrum, but has plenty of protection for their LHHs.
OK, count me as excited to have Pete Alonso as an Oriole. Gives the team the right-handed thumper they need and should have lots of opportunities vs LHP given the rest of the lineup.
The #Orioles have walk-off wins in 4 of their last 5 games.
The only other time they accomplished that in franchise history was in 1954 6/23-27 (Bos 1, Pha 3).
That must be one of the only team records remaining from that inaugural 1954 team.
BTW, Os and Pirates are tied 2-2 in B7 today.
It's always nice when the a new team comes to town and has just used 7 relievers in their previous game like the Reds did on Thursday.
Sadly, their also starting a LHP (Abbott) and the #Orioles can't hit lefties to save their lives:
vs RHP: .244/.309/.447/.756
vs LHP: .199/.281/.257/.538
The Orioels have just 1 HR of a LHP and 22 off RHP (in 3x as many ABs).
It may be too much to hope for...but that Jackson Holliday slam could be the moment we look back on as igniting the #Orioles offense back to the expected level.
