How The 1984 Miners' Strike Changed Britain Forever | VICE

Second time volunteering at a #Waverley Lakes #Parkrun today. Did pre-event set up which allowed me to run it too.

I did feel like a bit of a spare part as it was set up quite quickly by people who knew what they were doing but I will probably become that person one day - learn by doing/watching.

No PBs as carrying an injury right now but a fun morning.

@Pionir Would not recommend swimming in there. This is old coking works (from Battle of #Orgreave fame) so although I've seen fish and other wildlife, it's only for the hardcore species.

"Compounding matters, 95 miners were charged with rioting, in a case that ultimately collapsed after the police’s evidence was found to be unreliable and, in some instances, fabricated. It was described by the barrister Michael Mansfield as “the biggest frame-up ever”."

Very pink sunset this evening in #Sheffield #Treeton #Orgreave #Rotherham.

So after 40 years we're finally getting an inquiry into Orgreave. This is a testament to the tireless work of campaigners. Hopefully it can avoid the glacial pace of the Undercover Policing Inquiry and some of the people brutalised by the police will still be alive when it reports

With #Orgreave in the news, we’re very proud to live nearby. Regularly go over the bridge and graffiti of #Scargill and Tories Out is still there.

Enquiry is long over due. The house we live in is the first time non-miners have lived in it and there are still many people round here that suffered from the police stitch-up.
