TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Japanese government on Thursday announced a plan to evacuate 120,000 people from Okinawa's southern islands in the event of an emergency.The plan calls for the evacuation of 110,000 residents and around 10,000 tourists, per Sankei Shimbun. Residents will be relocated to 32 cities and towns across eight prefectures, including seven prefectures of Kyushu and Yamaguchi Prefecture on Honshu.The islands that would be evacuated are Okinawa's closest to Taiwan. Nago Castle Park is a hot spot for cherry blossom-viewing in the winter as thousands of visitors come to enjoy the pink blush flowers. Nago-dake, a mountain just at the back of the park, does not receive the same glory.
