Fear in Tokyo: Toxic substance sprayed in a shopping mall.

AGI - Approximately 20 people were injured in central Tokyo after a man sprayed a substance apparently toxic in a luxury shopping center. A Tokyo police spokesperson said a man sprayed a substance near an ATM on the building’s ground floor, and shortly afterward, a “strange odor” was reported.

Rescue Efforts in Ginza
At noon, streets immediately surrounding the building, located in the Ginza shopping district and home to numerous luxury brands, were blocked, and self-driving pumps and ambulances were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters and paramedics in protective suits escorted people out of the shopping center for examination aboard specialized vehicles. Public broadcaster NHK reported that the injuries appear to be minor.

Injury Toll at the “Ginza Six”
According to sources cited by Asahi Shimbun, 25 men and women aged between 20 and 80 complained of sore throats and other pains, and 19 of them were transported to hospitals. They were all conscious. The targeted shopping center is the “Ginza Six” at Ginza 6-chome, Chuo-ku. Witnesses reported that someone sprayed a substance similar to tear gas.
