Ohio’s nursing homes are dumping patients at homeless shelters, some on sidewalks out in front, according to federal inspection reports, resident advocates, and the industry itself.

One man, who had been in a nursing home for 22-years was told he was going to assisted living, given no discharge info, medication management, etc and dumped at a city homeless shelter. His facility is owned by Ciena Healthcare, which operates 83 other long-term care facilities in multiple states. https://www.medicare.gov/care-compare/inspections/pdf/nursing-home/365994/health/complaint-inspection?date=2025-12-29
A 74-year old woman was dumped outside a homeless shelter with a bag of medicine, using a walker, broken tibia, and dementia who didn't know where she was or how she got there. No one knows what ultimately happened to her. https://www.medicare.gov/care-compare/inspections/pdf/nursing-home/365572/health/complaint-inspection?date=2023-08-03
Ohio's ombudsman’s office, the legal advocate for long term care patients, gets copies of every involuntary discharge from a nursing home in Ohio. This office is a joke and has been for a long time.

The Buckeye Flame is a LGBT news site for Ohio. While the ones with their logo are nice, I really like the "Protagonist" and "Antagonist" shrits. Would go well for the Villain part of my website. :D
So #SearchOhio and #OhioLINK are coming back (supposedly) February 9th.
For those that don't know, these are Ohio's equivalent to Interlibrary Loan. They are respectively catalogs of all participating Ohio Public libraries and College/University libraries. Around May they were taken down as they were moving to a new OPAC system. They were supposed to be done by the end of August 2025.
As you can tell from the calendar, it's February 2026.
I thought just a few months was overly ambitious considering how long it took to get our single system's catalog into a new OPAC. And I was right.
Hopefully it does start working, as we've got a lot of people looking for old books that we don't carry.
The downside of a good budget. Gotta weed older books to make room for new ones.

I heard there is a call for signatures to get a referendum on the ballot in November. As I call it, the "Did I Fucking Stutter?" referendum would be to undo the recriminalization of hemp products. Since Ohio legalized marijuana a few years ago, the statehouse has been progressively retightening the noose around it. The broadest just passed, a law criminalizing intoxicating hemp products as hemp wasn't explicitly mentioned in the prior law.
Since it's really fucking hard/impossible to say whether something was made with hemp or marijuana, (as it's the same fucking plant,) it gives cops that vague leeway to enforce it arbitrarily.
I wonder if they will be able to get an injunction to inhibit the enforcement of the hemp law until the vote in November.
So that's fun.
Cool. Go Cleveland Public Library!
