As randomly chosen by survey* on Mastodon, our next spotlight is on number 641 on The List, submitted by frozen.

Continuing our lives being atmospherically soundtracked, here’s a gorgeous EP from German dark electronica duo Eric Goldstein and Konstanze Bathseba Zippora, a.k.a. OAKE.

While the entire EP is wonderful, “Paysage Dépaysé”, the last (and longest) track, is a complete knock out – you may want to hit repeat on this one. As the Bandcamp description says “Immense, yawning dirge tones and dissonant strings combine with the already established presence of pneumatic drill percussion to make a timeless meditation on lost grandeur.” And it seems I’m not the only one who loves this track – check out this remix EP, which has a remastered version and three remixes.

It’s only love.

*The survey choices that led to this spotlight were “M”, “O”, and “N”, following the earlier survey with “B”, “L”, “U”, and “E”. The second letter was the winning selection, so the survey result was translated as picking the second album in The List by an artist whose name starts with the letter “O”.

The fifteenth century window in the north aisle wall of St Bartholomew's, Oake, Somerset. It is said to have been brought from Taunton Priory after the Dissolution. Wherever it came from, it's way too big for a quite small church - and has been put in back to front...

The simple but shapely font at St Bartholomew's church, Oake. It might be 11th century - it's described as 'possibly Saxon' in the listing. It looks suspiciously like the dark base is another, upturned font. Curiouser and curiouser!

Visited the lovely little church of St Bartholomew's, Oake, Somerset today. Main part of the building is C13-C14, C15 2-storey porch became base of tower, upper stage added, c1540 6-light window inserted in nave (window said to be from Taunton Priory - definitely too big for the nave wall!), chancel roof rebuilt 1850, restored 1875 and 1911 when base of tower became vestry.
