@Thapsyrensays yes, unfortunately the "hard to gain growth" is true for so many communities here. also it potentially relates to you were saying about how it needs to be funnier here, both tarot and astrology fall outside of the norm of what many mastodonians are interested in -- many stereotypical techies are very dismissive, for example. [#NotAllTechies, of course, but many.]

@malwaretech True. Agree 100%.

That said, there was a whole lot of extremely shitty "LeArN tO cOdE*" bullshit that used to spout forth from the mouthholes of the loudest and dumbest - albeit perhaps skilled in one very specialized area - techies.

As a tech household with very blue collar/service industry roots, I found that whole business cringe at best and frankly, pretty dang punchworthy. If people who were struggling while getting the ol' "LeArN tO cOdE" have less sympathy for techies** (who've recently discovered that they too are potentially precarious labor), than they do for, say, ACTUALLY essential workers I can't say I blame them one bit.

*the "ya unskilled peasants" end to that solidarity killing suggestion was USUALLY only implied, but let's face it, it was not subtle

**Yes, yes #NotAllTechies

@wxl @jd hell, just being all #NotAllTechies about it *is* part of the problem
