Most studies on nociceptive pathways focus on links between the subcortical regions and spinal cord, but do cortico-cortical circuits also contribute to pain modulation? This study reveals a pathway from the retrosplenial cortex to the anterior cingulate cortex that modulates nociceptive perception.
