Every now and then, I return to the source for #inspiration. I've been taking time away from the studio to celebrate the holidays, spend more time with family and reset. As we creep closer to the end of the year, I'm thinking about what to make, what to express, how to take my work to the next level in 2026. This Nigerian (Igbo) pottery vessel is absolutely magnificent--looks like sewn leather, doesn't it? #pottery #NigerianPottery #ceramics #art #BlackArt #AfricanArt

A lidded, round-bottom pot from Nigeria circa 1971.

@potterybyosa - I do not remember whether I got this in Ibadan or elsewhere. It's hard to see the decorative lines. The clay has a couple tiny bits of gold. It is one of my favorite things.

Yesterday, a woman told me she saw #LadiKwali build a large pot at Arrowmont School of Craft in Tennessee in the 1970s. She told me that when Kwali was finally done, she danced and danced, joyously around her pot—a detail I hadn’t heard before.

I believe it’s the same pot I got to see and touch when I was last at Arrowmont in 2023. #pottery #ceramics #NigerianPottery

Since @FaithfullJohn mentioned #TonyOgogo, I also wanted to mention Nigeria’s most well-known potter #LadiKwali. She became internationally known after British potter #MichaelCardew came to Nigeria in the 1950s to start Abuja Pottery Centre, but she was already known in Nigeria as an accomplished & talented potter. This pot of hers was acquired by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. #nigeria #ancestors #gratitude #africanceramics #pottery #ceramics #nigerianpottery #lacma
