Bird's nest fungus, Nidula sp., from southern California, Satwiwa trail, Thousand Oaks, 2013. The little "eggs" inside the cup form the spores. Rain splashes them out, which gets them a bit further from the parent shroom before release.
I seem to remember there are lichens that have an analogous system. ?? Anybody here know? Or even have pics??
