It appears that one benefit of creating a bi-directional claim on your URL on your Threads profile will add an "Author" annotation when you link to articles on that domain. Nice!

It's crazy — Facebook joined the Data Transfer Project in July 2018, and the best they can do is have you download your Twitter backup and then upload following.js to Threads to match usernames.

It appears that Threads is working on a Communities feature called "Loop", which might be similar to subreddits or X Communities.
All I can tell is that you'll be able to Join and Leave. 🤷🏻♂️
