This will likely never happen given the state of the US, and the fact that I'm currently 100% in money saving/debt reduction mode in the assumption some combination of Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security will be gutted. But, I need something fun to think about for my own mental health.
I would like a new desktop PC. My disability precludes me from physically assembling one myself, and there's no one in my personal life who can make one for me. So, I'm looking for a good pre-built.
My current rig is a Dell XPS with the following:
Intel i9-9900 @ 3.60 GHz
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080
64 GB RAM
2 2TB drives
Not a bad machine by any measure, but definitely feeling its age. I'd like to, at the very least, have a new PC with an equivalent (or better) CPU, RAM, and HDD space. A better GPU is a must. I'm Intel/AMD agnostic, but would like to run linux (finally free myself from Windows).
Any ideas?
Just over 2 years since I dug into #thegreatmediaproject and I feel like the most significant thing just happened and it was fleeting.
If you kept up this all started to get my girlfriend access to all her dvds of all the Law and Order she owns. That spilled over into my DVD and CD ripping project that had been on hold since 2016.
From 1 random raspberry pi to a 30TB NAS, 1 RPi 4, 1 i3 NUC, 1 x1 Carbon with RTX GPU, and new personal workstation (see my #newrig tag). Upgraded my networking from Eero pros with WiFi 5 to Eero pro 6e and 2.5gb for the personal devices and hardwired all servers listed above.
Learned #Linux DE’s Pop_OS, Ubuntu, Cinnamon. All deb backend machines. Running 2 instances of Docker, DNS sink, 20 services. Added a VPS running more services. I have become dangerous enough to move to Linux for my personal machines completely.
That leaves my work machine and phone on apple stuff.
Halfway productive lunch! Got the #newrig to accept the 2 new DDR5 6000 DIMMs and they are lit up without issue. This is good news! Also found the tempered glass screw plug inside the case, thought I lost it.
Reason the RAM didn’t fire up the other day is the DIMM slot is less than a millimeter from the cpu cooler. I had to get it up on the bench and move some stuff to seat the DIMM. Took the time to find the drive mounts for some 2.5” drives, new cases are weird with case mounting vs bay mounting.
