We also visited Omey Island, a tidal island on the western shore of Connemara. It had about 400 residents before the Famine and now has just a handful. Strange mix of holiday homes, long-derelict houses, and some more recently vacated

That dereliction is good for its wildlife, though, which seems to be thriving. Any help identifying this animal? Skull is about 8 cm long

I mean sure, it looks like paint, but I think this is a purple lichen? Found under a railway arch on the Pennine Way in Northumberland. Felt to the touch a bit like modelling clay and smelt ‘fresh’, if anything. Any ideas? #IDHelp #NatureSpot #lichen #LichenSubscribe #nature #NatureID
