@sundogplanets oh, and this reminds me of an unusually very cold morning in Brampton ON some 20 years ago. again; its not the apocalypse

Yes, a rare - to - me double sundog up by the temple. Naked eye cosmology.

Been trying to catch some naked eye daylight planets the past couple of weeks. So far: Venus 1 hr before sunset; Jupiter 10 mins before sunset. Mars just at sunset (v. difficult). Mercury wasn't visible tonight, even with binoculars, until about 40 mins after sunset, but I did catch it for maybe 3-4 minutes before it set behind the trees. #astro #astronomy #planet #venus #mercury #nakedeyeastronomy #missouri

Setting an alarm to watch the Wolf Moon eat Mars in a few hours.

Sorry for those who wanted rocket landings on Mars.

That red dot next to Moon tonight is Mars. For continental USA observers Moon will occult (cover up) Mars later tonight. Watch the separation between them decrease and then watch Mars “change sides.” You’re seeing Moon’s actual orbital motion in real time. No AI. No fakery. This is Nature. #NakedEyeAstronomy #LCTTA #Moon #Mars #Occultation
Hey North American observers, FYI the very bright object to Moon’s lower right tonight is Venus. The dimmer object between Venus and Moon is Saturn. Your homework is to watch Moon’s position change relative to Venus and Saturn over the next few nights. #LCTTA #NakedEyeAstronomy

So back to #satellite spotting as the clouds clear somewhat.
Still patchy but not fog like the last 2 mornings.

Only 3 today.
* 2002-009A [ENVISAT 1]
* 1998-067A [the ISS, at mag 0 it was very easy to spot]
* 1987-027B [Zenit-2 rocket body, used to launch Cosmos 1833 - an electronic intelligence satellite - in March 1987]

I've had better days but it's better than nothing. And I have to start going out even earlier - damned summer and earlier dawns!

Just saw the naked eye variable star Algol, β Per, at minimum brightness. It’s the easiest variable star to observe and it’s periodicity is well known and predictable. #Astronomy #AmateurAstronomy #NakedEyeAstronomy
