Grace: A Prayer For Peace | Film | NZ On Screen

Grace: A Prayer For Peace - Artist Robin White (Ngāti Awa) has spent more than five decades creating work which ranges from iconic New Zealand landscapes to collaborative tapa cloth. Grace: A Prayer for Peace, directed by Gaylene Preston, traces White’s evolution as an artist, and her creative response to the world around her. Filmed in Aotearoa, Japan and Kiribati, the documentary follows her working with collaborators and reflecting on what drives her creativity. Grace offers a meditation on living a creative life in motion — shaped by community, faith and a deep engagement with the Pacific.

Just managed to squeak in two tech free hours on #NoTechDayNZ by going to a two hour film at #NZIFF - my first time seeing Hard Boiled (stylish fun, but awfully blasé about human collateral damage).

Consternation abounds as I arrive at a cinema I've never been into before, for the #WhānauMārama #NZIFF screening of local short films - Ngā Whanaunga: Aotearoa New Zealand’s Best 2025 (Programme One), to discover that the seat number on my ticket doesn't exist.

I had no idea there was a theatrette in the building behind the war memorial carillon. Commendably, there's a gap in row I for cinemagoers in wheelchairs, but the ticketing system hasn't taken that into account and I'm now sitting in I-16 though my ticket says I-8. Phew!

Kokuho might be the pick of the 10 recommendations at the sneak peak event. I’m going to some of that list anyway but this looks like a must see. #NZIFF #filmsky www.nziff.co.nz/2025/otepoti...

Whānau Mārama: Kokuho
Whānau Mārama: Kokuho

The all-consuming dedication of the Japanese Kabuki artist gets its due in an ornate, decades-spanning spectacular of passion and pain that charts the journey of two young trainees.

This afternoon at 2pm in Ōtepoti. At the art gallery. Its a free event - a kind of soft opening preview for the festival. I'm planning to be there so say hi if you make it. #NZIFF www.nziff.co.nz/2025/otepoti...

It’s that time again. May actually try and get to one or two this year. I haven’t been to one since COVID started.

Whānau Mārama: Anchor Me - The Don McGlashan Story

A long overdue documentary tribute to one of nation’s best loved songwriters, charting Don McGlashan’s storied career from arty punk upstart to one of the strongest voices in the chorus of Aotearoa’s national identity.

Listening to this song from the film Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. Despite the title it is dark comedy and quite charming. #nziff Never heard of Brenda Lee before so good to find this
