Guaje Ridge, burned in the 2001 Cerro Grande Fire and still a long way from recovering. We'll be hiking there tomorrow: it's a one of the best places to look for pasqueflowers this time of year.

The Valle Vidal is a 100,000-acre, high-elevation alpine basin in New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It is spectacular, from the winding oxbow ribbon of Rio Costilla to the vast, open valleys. Part of the Carson National Forest, the area serves as a crucial habitat for the state’s largest elk herd and offers year-round outdoor recreation, like hiking, camping, and fishing.

White-crowned Sparrow
Alameda, NM
There was a loud chorus of white-crowns in the quince thicket this morning. I suspect they will move north for the season early this year.
yahoo news | Good Morning Britain issues sickening Epstein announcement
Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh broke a harrowing update on Tuesday’s programme, revealing that specialist cadaver‑sniffing dogs have been deployed to search Jeffrey Epstein’s remote Zorro Ranch in New Mexico. The search follows a tip that the bodies of two girls may be buried on the property – a location alleged by Virginia Giuffre to be one of the sites where she was abused. Correspondent Dan Rivers travelled to the ranch with Giuffre’s sister Sky and their mother Amanda Roberts, who laid a butterfly memorial in honour of the late activist, who died by suicide in Western Australia last April.
Rivers reported that, despite the dogs’ extensive sweeps, no human remains have been discovered so far. Local politicians have already set up a commission to investigate the full extent of Epstein’s abuse, and ITV uncovered that ranch workers were forced to sign a non‑disclosure agreement that imposed a $100,000 penalty for any breach. Sky, fighting back tears, urged authorities to “dig the whole property up, every single inch,” insisting that the victims deserve justice.
The segment closed with Sky’s stark warning that if bodies are indeed hidden on the land, “the blood is on their hands.” Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6 am on ITV and ITVX, continuing to follow the ongoing fallout from the Epstein scandal and the fight for answers by Giuffre’s family and supporters.

The New Republic | Epstein’s New Mexico Horror House Will Finally
Be Investigated by Virginia Heffernan
Since November 2024, dozens of states have moved to protect their internal sovereignty against President Trump’s campaign to consolidate an autocratic central government.
The flamboyant resisters have mostly been loudmouths like Illinois, New York, and California. But now New Mexico, a quieter player, has entered the fray. The New Mexico state legislature is bringing rigor, tactical acumen, and moral imagination to the cause.
Last month, the New Mexico statehouse launched a Truth Commission, chaired by state Representatives Andrea Romero and Marianna Anaya.
