If anyone is interested in joining in an idea like MyLast (see above) please reach out. If there's an existing project already point me there. Again the concept is individual contributions to one collective message: escape from capitalism. It's my hope that seeing the fight of individuals against their specific corporate oppressors will inspire others.

The format:

#MyLast #BenAndJerrys because it betrays the founders' vision of standing up for moral values https://www.news4jax.com/business/2025/09/17/ben-jerrys-co-founder-greenfield-leaves-ice-cream-brand-due-clash-with-unilever-on-social-issues/

This post is my 3rd talking about #MyLast — an idea I have to form community around the struggle to escape corporate dependence. I've seen arguments break out among those who are on the same side over reliance on specific companies. The truth is that they are all bad & we cannot boycott them all. The breaking of boycotts makes folks angry, obviously weakening the boycott. I'm looking at this differently. I'll support existing boycotts. If target goes under, good. But I don't think empowering+ 1/
+Walmart is positive either. In most cases there are no positive alternatives to existing businesses. No ethical consumption under capitalism. This dilemma causes frozen inaction among many. We bear the burden on our shoulders for the wrongs of corporations. My idea for #MyLast is individuals sharing their personal commitment to walk away from corporate relationships one at a time. It's a happy space to say, "I paid off my debt & won't deal with this sorry bank again." Things like that.

During a meaningful conversation today a "normie" said that shaming others into adopting ethical behaviors does not work & causes backlash. Instead I imagine a hashtag like #MyLast that offers people an opportunity to take a stand, any stand of their choosing. For example I might share "#MyLast day working for a racist" & someone else might share "#MyLast month of Amazon Prime" etc. Concentrated boycotts are more effective but any example of an ethical decision can help inspire others.
@liztai I'm imagining a hashtag trend for good & degrowth. Something like #MyLast where individuals share their last purchase of a product or last month of an addictive subscription or last post on a harmful social media monopoly. It's difficult for us to find solidarity when our capacities are different. Some depend on Amazon for basic needs; some are locked into a site for their income; etc. But we can share support for the main goal of escaping this hell by fighting corporations.
