I'm sorry for the English (and yes, I mean the English here), but every time I say "good god" I imagine it being uttered by an Englishman who has a monocle, a mustache, and mutton chops (as in the beard, not as in the meat).
As he says "good god", his monocle falls into a tea cup that he is holding in his right hand. The saucer is held by the left hand.
He also lives during the colonial era.
I know it is a caricature.

I love this mutton-chopped face on a corbel of Cottiers on Hyndland Street in Glasgow. A former church, it was built in the 1860s, and I'm betting this face was modelled on either a local church official or someone associated with William Leiper, the church's architect.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea (some go for the full beard), but I've long liked the idea of Dwarven women from fantasy RPGs having muttonchops or similar sideburns.
Some bit of the Death Gate Cycle seemed to me to imply this, and it stuck in my head canon ever since.
