Walking Toward What Must Be
A Reflection from the Garden of Auguste Rodin
There are works of art that ask nothing of us but to look. And there are others that quietly ask how we will live.
When I visited the Musée Rodin in Paris, I stood before The Burghers of Calais by Auguste Rodin. Six men, walking toward what they believed would be their final moments. I expected to feel sorrow. Instead, I felt something quieter. A deep acknowledgment of what must be.

This short video reflection emerged from that encounter not as an explanation, but as a meditation on how we meet the inevitable in our own lives. A diagnosis, a duty, an aging parent, a turning season in one’s life. We do not choose the circumstance, but we choose how we walk toward it. These men walk with dignity. They do not resist their fate with bitterness. They acknowledge it. And in that acknowledgment, they become timeless.
Wherever you are as you watch, I invite you simply to pause and walk for a moment beside them.
