今日は歴史的な一日でした。CEBがアジアで初めて東京で開催され、ガイ・バーナード・ライター国連事務次長による講演がありました。

現在、常任理事国5カ国のうち2カ国が国際法を無視という危機的状況の中で、ライター氏から日本への熱いメッセージが届きました。

1️⃣ 国際法を順守し、法に基づく国際秩序の模範であり続けること

2️⃣ 国連改革の声を上げ続けること——加盟国の一員として主体的に推進すべき

グテーレス事務総長が来日し、高市総理と「日本が国連改革を後押しする」と約束を交わしたばかり。このタイミングでの事務次長の言葉は、極めて重く、日本の方向性を示す決定的なメッセージだと感じています。

The UN needs a strong leader committed to multilateralism and not aligned with any country, including any superpower.

It is precisely this, along with a commitment to serving all of humanity, combined with competence, that should be the sole basis for selecting the next Secretary-General.
