Twelve Fire Update – Aug 9, 8:00 AM:

• U.S. Hwy 40: Open, reduced speeds.
• Deerlodge Rd: Reopened.
• Containment: 35% (no change)
• Size: 4,287 acres (no change)
• Crews remain on active suppression.

Red Flag Warning: 11 AM–8 PM today. Critical fire weather expected.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in effect—follow all rules to prevent new fires.

Slow Down! Speeding near the fire zone endangers firefighters working to protect the community. Give them space so they can make it home safely, per the Moffat County Sheriff's Office.

Update from BLM Colorado:

The fire is currently 4,287 acres in size, 2817 acre on private, 670 acres State and 800 acres BLM lands managed by the Little Snake Field Office. The fire is burning in pinyon, juniper, grass and brush. The fire is still active due to dry fuels, warm temperatures and gusty winds.

The Twelve Fire was reported the afternoon of August 6th at approximately 3:00PM and is burning roughly 18 miles west of Mabell, CO between Elk Springs and the Deer Lodge Park Road.

The National Park Service, Dinosaur National Monument has issued a closure for the Deer Lodge Park Road and campground for firefighter and public safety during this incident. Due to the firefighter traffic as well as the reduced visibility, please use caution when traveling US Highway 40 between mile markers 38 through 44.

There is currently no new acreage update. The last reported estimate placed the fire at approximately 1,000 acres.

U.S. Highway 40 remains open, but speed reductions are in place due to ongoing fire activity. Please drive with caution. Deer Lodge Road is currently closed, per the Moffat County Sheriff's Office as of 11:19am.
