Another fantastic article written by @zarch1972 of @energystatsuk fame discussing how he manages his Mixergy hot water cylinder with his heat pump. As always, tons of real world stats that help tell the story and I'd never considered the possibility of it being more efficient to heat water a bit hotter than you need and to then mix it back down to help stretch your water capacity with a smaller tank.

Hot Water Cylinder Sizing and Mixing | Energy Stats UK

What size hot water cylinder should you get with your heat pump? And how mixing can help you get more usable hot water.

@EsTresidder

When Octopus 🐙 did our #HeatPump in Sep’22, they moved our existing #Mixergy hot water tank 1.5 meters (at my request).

What I didn’t realise until after they had finished the job, they re-piped a hot water connection to a WC tap next to the room where the tank was, & also a utility sink with…….can you guess?!

*22mm copper* 🤬🤦🏻‍♂️the dead leg is like emptying a swimming 🏊‍♀️ pool!

Needless to say, it’s a long wait for hot water (*in the room next door*!!!)

A few of the positives:

1. They agreed to integrate with, and move to a new position, my 2018 #Mixergy tank…. (yes, that was mine that was being referred to by Nathan (@[email protected]) after contacting him) after initially quoting to replace it!! 😱

I’m so glad I spotted this (most people wouldn’t have) as it presents so much rich data, metrics and even just charge % info.

I still think it’s great for volumetric top ups even now
