#mediacompetence is used as a hollow phrase
Besides the #socialcomoetence you mentioned, people need #societycompetence , too

To see in what kind of #future and political #system the charismatic #leaders lead them into

And why #fascism means losing for the majority of a population

And #war

I will do two #talks on this topic on @datenspuren tomorrow

Whoever tries to get rid of critical voices is trying to get rid of political freedom

It is a trademark of the extreme right to yell that they are the victims & never heard while shutting everyone down who is not in line with their #ideology

People get shut down for things #Charliekirk himself loved to say

What we need is not #mediacompetence but #societycompetence - if people do not know what they're losing they will not defend it

"Wikipedia is not a good source."

"What would be a good source, then?"

"I don't know. Googling it?"

This pattern is so common that I suspect most people who say this don't even know Google Scholar exists, let alone have actually tried to read a paper.

I'm 100% convinced that "Wikipedia is untrustworthy" is only ever brought up to win an argument, because usually it's a pretty good source without having to spend days on research.

Fun fact: People hating on #journalists and "the #media" as a seemingly monolithic block generally have a very low #mediacompetence and are easily fooled by fake news. And yes: The consider themselves very smart while they obviously are far from that.

I have zero motivation to communicate with people who show these kinds of opinions. And I will happily block or mute them. #PSA
