Greg PakThe apparent collapse of masthead dot social, which supposedly had over 30,000 accounts, makes me wonder if there could be an instance-independent way for folks to automatically and regularly back up their accounts locally and restore/switch instances from those backups. Like through one of the apps? No idea what the technical challenges involved are. But the fact that your account can just vanish if your server host goofs up or gives up is an ongoing problem. #masthead #mastheadsocial

Hill403It's been a week since I last was able to log into my "masthead" account. Gave up reset my account here. Anyone know what happened over at #MastheadSocial ?
James Milkey@maegul @mark4ja I was on the instance and finally gave up waiting around so started over on a new instance. But there definitely wasn't any notice. Also strange was there was no Patreon or anything to help with server costs and the admin seemed mostly if not entirely absent. But for now there is no method to migrate my account over (which is fine in the long run). I have not been deterred.
