Spent a delightful day at Share Community, learning level one #Makaton.

After a few nervous moments, all my anxieties about trying to cram a new language into the addled loft space of my brain melted away.

So excited to be staring this journey.

My dyslexia always made learning language an ordeal. This puts me firmly back into the visual domain, where I feel less vulnerable!

Makaton the "signing and communication system" aimed at people with learning disabilities and their families is stolen and misappropriated from British Sign Language (#BSL) and not even compatible. #Makaton Foundation charge for access to their signs and materials, making £1.5 million a year.

Not content with stealing BSL in the 70s and bastardising signs. Makaton are now trying to do the same to Deaf signing communities across the world.

The hearing world continues to pillage and caricature the deaf community—most recently with the proprietary, sign-based system Makaton.

This week, I am demonstrating the sign for 'weather'. For this sign, hold both your hands in front of you with your palms facing you and wiggle your fingers towards yourself. This is great when asking children what they think the weather will be like before they go outside.
