L’univers des geishas reste entouré de mystères, avec des représentations récentes souvent faussées qui en faisaient des prostituées de luxe. On connaît assez mal au fond ces femmes de compagnie et danseuses qui perpétuent un art vieux de plusieurs siècles et Makanai : Dans la cuisine des maiko en offre un bon aperçu. Créée par Hirokazu Kore-eda qui réalise aussi les trois premiers épisodes, cette mini série Netflix adapte un manga et propose une plongée sans jugement dans ce monde étonnant.

Netflix created a true gem here and then never told anyone.
