This one was not as strong as the January earthquake near York Harbor

MILLINOCKET, Maine — "Another small earthquake shook part of Maine on Sunday, but this one was no where near the magnitude 3.8 that hit off the coast of York Harbor in January. That quake was followed by a couple of notable aftershocks.
"Sunday's earthquake was measured at a magnitude 2.5 and was centered just northwest of Millinocket. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was about 6.5 miles deep.
"Only a couple people reported actually feeling Sunday's earthquake and there were no reports of any damage.
"Maine does get several small earthquakes each year.
"The January earthquake was the fifth-strongest on record in Maine. The Maine Geological Survey's online database indicates that this earthquake was tied for the third-strongest earthquake with an epicenter in Maine since 1997.
"The state of Maine typically experiences several earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.0 or greater every year. In 2024, there were four earthquakes with an epicenter in Maine that were strong enough to be recorded on the Maine Geological Survey's list. The strongest of those earthquakes came on July 28, when a magnitude 2.8 quake happened in West Gardiner.
"But according to the USGS, there were more than a dozen other earthquakes that happened in Maine that were not on the Maine Geological Survey's list. All of those earthquakes were weaker than a 2.0-magnitude, which is usually how strong a quake needs to be in order to be felt by someone. The Maine Geological Survey does note that its list does not include most microquakes with a magnitude less than 2.0."
