Some progress on having my own bots / bot instance as manual registration at mastodon.social is pain.

I clearly have a discoverable bot that is able to follow... Need to test posting and other features.

 We've successfully upgraded our Mastodon server to v4.6.0-alpha.5+mementomods-2026-03-21, along with Mastodon Bird UI 4.0.0-alpha.0-4.

This update includes today's latest daily build with 269 new commits from upstream since mementomods-2026-02-21.

What's new in Mastodon core - These are the changes Mastodon Team have introduced us in the latest nightly version we are running:

✨️ New features

- Collections: Public collections on profiles, remote account support, share dialog, reporting, moderation tools, tag suggestions, and language selector (not active for us yet)
- Profile editing: New API, avatar/header image uploading with descriptions, featured tags editing, account fields grid layout (not active for us yet)
- New `exclude_direct` flag for account statuses API
- Split `invite_users` permission into `invite_bypass_approval` for finer control
- `max_note_length` and `max_display_name_length` now exposed in instance configuration API
- Accessibility improvements to sign-up flow, reset password and confirmation pages
- Lots of fixes, refactors, and dependency updates

🔮 Upcoming

- Profile redesign and Collections continue to be built incrementally upstream behind experimental flags, we'll enable them once Mastodon Bird UI support is ready
- FASP (Fediverse Auxiliary Service Providers) infrastructure continues to be developed

🐦‍⬛ Mastodon Bird UI 4.0.0-alpha.0-4 (nightly)

- Fix focusable background color standing out too much for account name
- Fix install script for Mastodon 2026-03-21 `common.scss` removal

Mastodon Bird UI 4.0.0-alpha.0-4 is still a work in progress in the nightly branch. It's not 100% ready, but it's stable with today's Mastodon alpha.5. Unfortunately a development is a bit stalled due to a lack of time personally.

Orr ... das hat mich jetzt Stunden gekostet.

Manche (alten) Lemmy und Peertube-Instanzen können sich nicht auf den Mastodon-Server authentisieren.
Die Lemmy und Peertube nutzen noch die alten Aufrufe (/activitypub/externalInteraction) und nicht die aktuelle Version (authorize_interaction).
Ein Redirect in der nginx site config hat geholfen.

Gibt es bessere/schönere Lösungen?

Looking for someone to help moderate goingdark.social. Not because we're drowning in reports, but because I don't want to be the only person carrying that responsibility.

Honestly it could go a week or two without a single report. When they do come in, most are obvious spam and take under a minute. The main thing is just being around and reachable, so there's someone else who has eyes on things.

Good fit if you've been active here for a while and care about keeping this corner of the fediverse healthy. Plenty of time to learn the ropes. A good fit is more important than experience.

Are you running an open registration mastodon instance?

Have you dealt with local accounts being reported for Russian troll farm or misinformation activity?

You NEED to look at more than just those accounts.

For each one that is getting reported, there are probably a dozen that do not. Once the troll farms get one in and that lasts a while, they'll come back and make more. Lots more.
