On June 15, 1936, the Westland Lysander made its first flight, marking the debut of one of Britain’s most unconventional World War II aircraft. Originally designed for army co-operation and reconnaissance, the Lysander’s exceptional STOL performance later made it ideal for covert missions behind enemy lines—most notably ferrying agents in and out of occupied France.
