I took this photo in 2016 at an abandoned estate with its own church. Behind the camera was an open door, and the bright sunlight that day cast the green of the meadows onto the white wall. The estate was magnificent, and so was the church. But I could have spent hours just looking at that last window with no view.

This image still fascinates me. I found it in 2016 in an abandoned railway station in Belgium. It’s not graffiti, but it’s definitely more than just a scribble (today’s #PhotoSuggestion). I still have no idea what lies behind this artwork. Gemini suspects it is Auguste Pavie, a central figure in French colonial expansion. Hence the bone, it supposes.

Today’s #PhotoChallenge is to post pictures depicting Labour Day. In my childhood, that would have meant a May Day demonstration similar to the Love Parade, but with far less music, less fun, much more order, and full of empty slogans. But those days are long gone. On the other side of the world – in West Germany – the items seen in the foreground here were still being produced at that time.

I came across this scene at an art venue very close to my flat. The materials had been left to rot in nearby abandoned buildings, and a couple of artists have staged them in this way. I think it captures Labour Day just as it was originally conceived: as a day for factory workers.

There’s this total work of art here in an old turbine hall. The hall is open for two days once a month. I love this place, where drawings and disused industrial objects are artfully arranged.

I saw this box of old, hand-labelled bottles when there was a theatre performance there. I have no idea what the bottles were ever used for. The contents certainly weren’t meant to be drunk.

The #Ihmezentrum in #Hannover is a huge inhabited #lostplace with seemingly endless spots like this one. If you're not afraid of dark figures like this one, it's an exciting place for photo shoots in the early morning hours or in the evening. This photo was taken while I was waiting for my chance to take the picture from the day before yesterday after sunset.

Der heutige #FotoVorschlag torpediert meine Postingpläne - Aber 'Pflanzen an ungewöhnlich seltsamen Stellen' schreit geradezu nach einem #LostPlace 😏.

These are the ruins of what was planned to be Germany's largest nuclear power plant. Construction began in 1982 near Stendal. After visiting the site over eight years ago, I saw a fascinating documentary about it. Entire residential areas were built for the workers. In the end, the project failed due to a shortage of materials and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

As far as I understood, an ambitious collector in Bad Oyenhausen, Germany, collected things like these aircrafts, buses, and other old equipment to create a museum. That didn't work out. I was there almost exactly 10 years ago, and everything was already rotting away behind barbed wire fences. By now, everything is gone.
